North Carolina General Assembly

Fiscal Analyst

  • Analyze and provide fiscal impact assessments for proposed legislation.
  • Cover multiple departments including Department of Revenue (DOR), Office of Administrative Hearings (OAH), Secretary of State (SOS), Department of State Treasurer (DST), Housing Finance Agency (HFA), Office of State Controller (OSC), Office of State Budget and Management (OSBM), and Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA).
  • Develop budget recommendations and prepare briefings for legislative committees.
  • Review and analyze state agency budget requests and performance measures.

IDEA Public Schools

Appalachian Trail Thru-Hike

Southbound Trek

Jul. 2023 - Oct. 2023

  • Completed a southbound thru-hike of the entire Appalachian Trail (approximately 2,190 miles) from Maine to Georgia.
  • Navigated challenging terrain, weather conditions, and logistical challenges while maintaining a consistent hiking schedule.
  • Developed deep appreciation for nature conservation and outdoor recreation management.

Using A.I. to Predict Political Attacks on Twitter

Undergraduate Researcher

Jan. 2018 - May 2019

  • Used IBM Watson and FastText to create machine learning models that predict likelihood of Tweets being attacks based on characteristics of the Tweet's author.
  • Presented two academic papers at the Undergraduate Research portion of the MPSA's annual conference in Chicago, explaining complex artificial intelligence concepts to political science researchers and other academics working in the humanities.

  • Explored the rise of the alt-right movement in Germany, comparing it to that in the USA and other first-world nations.
  • Authored a piece on the bullying crisis in New Zealand, both in schools and workplaces, and the role that race plays in creating domestic policy.

  • Organized and executed the society's first-annual student-run German Professional Conference, which attracted eleven German-based companies and over 100 students for the purpose of conveying internship and job information to students.
  • Doubled traditional annual budget to $2750 through grants, company sponsorships, and the Student Activities Fund.

  • Attended and assisted with professional and social events for the chapter, including visits by corporate executives, leadership workshops, service opportunities, and chapter retreats.

  • Assisted Michelin Career Center in offering rentable professional attire for students who do not have appropriate clothes by securing $8,489 from the Capital Improvement Fund through presentation.
  • Designed and executed "Meet at the Orange" anti-polarization project, which helped students recognize the exaggeration of partisan divides in modern politics.
